Functional Medicine Headache and Migraine Clinic
Recurring headaches and migraine attacks are exhausting, and being told to avoid your triggers is not much of a plan when you do not know what they are. Our online headache clinic works with patients across the UK, using a functional medicine approach to find the patterns behind your attacks and reduce how often they happen.
Who we help
- Migraine with or without aura
- Menstrual and hormonal migraine
- Frequent tension-type headaches
- Headaches that began after a viral illness, concussion or period of prolonged stress
- Medication overuse headache, where painkillers have become part of the cycle
- Headaches alongside other symptoms such as fatigue, digestive problems or histamine intolerance
Some headaches need urgent assessment rather than a clinic appointment. If you have a sudden, severe headache that peaks within seconds, a headache with fever, a stiff neck, a rash, weakness, confusion, visual loss or a first severe headache after the age of 50, contact NHS 111 or 999, or go to your nearest emergency department.
Common Drivers We Investigate
Migraine is a neurological condition, and it is often influenced by what is happening elsewhere in the body. We look for the contributors that make attacks more frequent or more severe.
- Hormonal patterns, including the change in oestrogen levels before a period, perimenopause, and conditions such as endometriosis
- Blood sugar instability, skipped meals and insulin resistance
- Gut health, including microbiome imbalance, SIBO and food sensitivities
- Histamine and mast cell activity, which we cover in our article on histamine and on our histamine and MCAS page
- Nutrient status, including magnesium, riboflavin, coenzyme Q10, iron and vitamin D
- Sleep quality, circadian rhythm and the stress response
- Thyroid function and other hormonal contributors, as set out on our thyroid page
- Caffeine, alcohol, hydration and medication patterns, including rebound headache
Our Approach
Your first appointment is a 90-minute consultation, and your doctor reviews your history in advance.
- We map your attack pattern against your cycle, sleep, meals, stress and medication use
- We test where it will change your plan, which may include bloods, nutrient status, hormone panels or gut testing
- We build a plan that addresses the drivers we find, rather than adding another painkiller
- We review medication use, including rebound headache, in partnership with your GP or neurologist
- We use nutritional therapy alongside medical care where diet and blood sugar are central
- We track frequency and severity over time, so you can see whether the plan is working
What makes our clinic different
- GMC-registered doctors who can prescribe, and who work alongside NHS neurology
- A focus on attack frequency and triggers, not only acute relief
- Testing chosen for your pattern rather than a fixed panel
- Whole-picture care that connects headaches with hormones, gut health and sleep
- Clear expectations about what is likely to help and how long it may take
Online Headache Appointments Across the UK
All consultations are held by secure video call, which is easier when light and travel make attacks worse.

- Testing is arranged remotely, with home kits where the test allows

FAQs About Headaches, Migraine and Functional Medicine
Can functional medicine cure migraine?
Migraine is a long-term condition, and we would not promise a cure. Our aim is to reduce how often attacks happen and how severe they are by addressing the drivers we can identify and change.
Do I need to keep taking my migraine medication?
That is a decision for you and your prescriber. Many patients continue their medication while we work on the underlying drivers, and we can support a review if you want one.
What testing might I need?
It depends on your pattern. Bloods and nutrient status are common, with hormone testing for cycle-related attacks and gut testing where digestive symptoms are present.
Should I keep a headache diary?
Yes. A few weeks of notes on timing, sleep, meals, cycle and medication use is genuinely useful, and it often reveals patterns before any test does.
Do you offer remote consultations?
Yes. We work virtually with patients throughout the UK.
