A Root-Cause Approach to PMS and PMDD with Mosaic Medical
What Is PMS?
Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) describes the emotional and physical symptoms that occur in the second half of the menstrual cycle. These symptoms are often due to hormonal imbalance, inflammation, or neurotransmitter changes.
How It Affects People:
For many, PMS interferes with relationships, work, energy, and overall quality of life. In more severe cases, Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD) can be debilitating, with significant mood changes and emotional distress each month.
- Mood swings, irritability, or low mood
- Breast tenderness or bloating
- Food cravings
- Fatigue or low motivation
- Anxiety or difficulty concentrating
Conventional treatment usually involves hormonal contraceptives or antidepressants. While these may ease symptoms, they don’t explore or correct the root causes.
Our Functional Medicine Approach
At Mosaic Medical, we help patients understand and address the underlying imbalances driving PMS and PMDD, with the aim of restoring hormone balance and reducing inflammation naturally.
- Oestrogen and progesterone balance — symptoms often occur when the natural cycle is out of rhythm
- Liver detoxification and hormone metabolism — essential for clearing excess hormones effectively
- Gut health and serotonin production — the gut plays a significant role in mood and hormone regulation
- Blood sugar instability — fluctuations can worsen mood and energy symptoms
- Nutrient status — deficiencies in B vitamins, magnesium, and others often contribute
- Comprehensive hormone testing (sometimes combined with stool testing)
- Personalised nutrition to support hormone metabolism and gut health
- Evidence-based supplements, tailored to your results
- Stress regulation and mind-body support
- In some cases, genetic testing to understand hormone metabolism pathways more clearly

FAQ – PMS, PMDD & Functional Medicine
Is PMS really treatable without medication?
Yes. PMS may be common, but it is not inevitable. By addressing hormonal imbalance, inflammation, and nutrient deficiencies, many women experience major relief without pharmaceuticals.
How is PMS different from PMDD?
PMS includes milder symptoms, while PMDD is a more severe and often disabling form. Both may have overlapping drivers, but PMDD often involves deeper neurotransmitter or inflammatory imbalances. We support both with a root-cause approach.
What natural treatments do you use?
We use targeted nutrients, adaptogens, botanicals, medicinal mushrooms, and stress-regulating strategies. These are chosen specifically for your results and situation — not all are needed for every patient.
How long does it take to see results?
Most women notice improvements within 1–2 cycles, with further benefits building over 3–6 months of consistent care.
Can diet alone fix PMS?
Diet plays a crucial role, but most patients do best with a combination of nutrition, functional testing, supplementation, and lifestyle support.
I have had gender transition and/or do not identify as a woman — can you still help?
Yes. We always see every patient as an individual and will meet you where you are. A discovery call is a good first step to discuss your unique situation.
Do you offer remote consultations?
Yes. We work with patients virtually across the UK, with face-to-face appointments available if clinically needed.
How do appointments work?
Your first appointment is 90 minutes. Your doctor will review your case beforehand, and during the consultation we’ll work together to build your personalised plan, including any testing that will influence your care.
Does the appointment price include testing?
No. Testing is separate, and only recommended if it will directly change your management plan.
I already have a diagnosis and test results — can you still help?
Yes. You can upload your results before your consultation. If there are many, we may charge a small preparation fee, but we will always confirm this in advance.
How does the nutrition side work?
We provide personalised nutrition advice. For more complex cases, we may recommend you also see our nutritional therapist, which often accelerates progress and supports your goals more effectively.
Ready to Move Beyond PMS and PMDD?
We recommend beginning with a free discovery call with one of our doctors or nutritional therapists. This will allow you to share your experience and explore whether our approach feels right for you.
