Functional Medicine for Chronic Pain with Mosaic Medical
A Root-Cause Approach to Chronic Pain
What Is Chronic Pain?
Chronic pain is pain that lasts for more than three months, often without a clear cause. It can be localised (e.g. back or joint pain) or widespread, as in fibromyalgia. For many, it becomes a daily challenge, interfering with work, exercise, sleep, and social life.
How It Affects People:
Chronic pain doesnât just affect the body â it also impacts mood, energy, and quality of life. Ongoing pain can lead to fatigue, sleep issues, anxiety, and depression. Over time, the nervous system may become more sensitive, creating a cycle where pain amplifies itself.
- Persistent muscle or joint pain
- Nerve pain, tingling, or numbness
- Headaches or migraines
- Sensitivity to touch or temperature
- Fatigue and sleep disturbances
- Reduced mobility or flexibility
- Mood changes such as irritability or depression
Conventional treatment often relies on painkillers, anti-inflammatories, muscle relaxants, or antidepressants. These may provide temporary relief but rarely address the underlying causes or help prevent future flare-ups.
Our Functional Medicine Approach
At Mosaic Medical, we treat chronic pain by addressing the why, not just the what. We understand the bodyâs pain pathways and how they can become overactivated, creating a cycle of ongoing discomfort.
- Chronic inflammation and immune dysfunction
- Nutrient deficiencies
- Hormonal imbalances
- Gut health and food sensitivities
- Chronic stress and nervous system dysregulation
- Postural imbalances, hypermobility, or old injuries
- Advanced lab testing such as comprehensive bloods, hormone panels, nutrient assessments, gut microbiome analysis and chronic infection screening
- Personalised nutrition and supplement strategies
- Mind-body approaches (mindfulness, meditation, breathwork)
- Referral, as appropriate, to relevant practitioners that we trust
Our aim is not just to reduce pain, but to restore balance so you can regain freedom and resilience in daily life.

Common Root Causes We Investigate
Sometimes the cause of pain is clear; often it is hidden or multifactorial. We look for:
- Chronic inflammation and oxidative stress
- Hormonal imbalances
- Nutrient deficiencies
- Food intolerances
- Gut health issues
- Nervous system dysfunction (stress response imbalance)
- Chronic stress, trauma, or unresolved anxiety
By uncovering and addressing these factors, we can help break the cycle of pain.
FAQ â Chronic Pain & Functional Medicine
Can functional medicine really help with chronic pain?
Yes. We focus on root causes such as inflammation, nutrient imbalances, or nervous system dysfunction. Our aim is to reduce pain naturally and sustainably. While we never make unrealistic promises, many patients experience significant relief with our approach.
Do you offer lab testing for chronic pain?
Yes. We use advanced testing to check inflammation, hormone balance, nutrient status, and other factors contributing to pain.
Iâve tried everything â what makes your approach different?
We donât just mask pain with medication. Instead, we identify and address whatâs driving it, using a whole-body plan for long-term relief.
Can you help me if Iâm already on pain medication?
Yes. We work alongside your existing medications and care providers. Over time, many patients naturally need less medication as underlying causes are resolved â but we never advise stopping medication suddenly.
Do you offer remote consultations?
Yes. We work with patients virtually, and can arrange in-person consultations if clinically needed.
How do appointments work?
Your first appointment lasts 90 minutes, and your doctor will have already reviewed your case. During this time, weâll map out whatâs happening, why, and what the next steps should be, including any testing.
Does the appointment price include testing?
No. Testing is separate, and we only recommend tests that will genuinely change your treatment plan.
I already have test results and a diagnosis â can you still help?
Yes. Youâll be able to upload your results before your consultation. If you have many, a small preparation fee may apply, but weâll discuss this with you first.
How does the nutrition side work?
Nutrition is a cornerstone of chronic pain management. For complex cases, we recommend working with our nutritional therapist alongside your doctor to accelerate progress.
Ready to Break Free from Chronic Pain?
We recommend starting with a free discovery call with one of our doctors or nutritional therapists. Youâll be able to share your story, ask questions, and decide whether our approach is right for you. You can also review our doctorsâ profiles to choose who youâd like to meet with first.
