A Root-Cause Approach to PCOS with Mosaic Medical
What Is PCOS?
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a common hormone imbalance that affects ovulation and metabolism. It is the leading cause of infertility in women, yet is often misunderstood and managed in a one-size-fits-all way.
How It Affects People:
PCOS can affect cycles, fertility, skin, mood, and weight. Many women describe years of trial and error, often being told only to “lose weight” or take the contraceptive pill, without deeper investigation into root causes.
Typical Symptoms Include:
- Irregular or missed periods
- Weight gain or difficulty losing weight
- Acne or facial hair growth (hirsutism)
- Hair thinning
- Fatigue or mood swings
- Insulin resistance and links to type 2 diabetes
Conventional treatment usually includes birth control pills, Metformin, or lifestyle advice. While these can help manage some symptoms, they do not address the underlying metabolic and hormonal drivers of PCOS.

FAQ – PCOS & Functional Medicine
Is PCOS reversible with functional medicine?
While PCOS itself isn’t technically curable, it is highly manageable. Many women see major improvements in their cycles, weight, mood, and fertility through a root-cause approach.
Do I have to take the contraceptive pill to manage PCOS?
No. The pill can mask symptoms but doesn’t correct underlying imbalances. We offer natural and medical alternatives to help balance hormones more sustainably.
Do you help women with “lean” PCOS?
Yes. Not all PCOS is associated with weight gain. We adapt our approach depending on whether insulin resistance, adrenal issues, or other drivers are present.
What tests do you use for PCOS?
We may use comprehensive blood panels, DUTCH hormone testing, and stool tests to understand hormone metabolism, gut health, and inflammation. We also review any results already available from your GP or gynaecologist.
I have had gender transition and/or do not identify as a woman — can you still help?
Yes. We see everyone as an individual and respect your journey and preferences. A discovery call is the best way to discuss your unique needs.
Do you offer remote consultations?
Yes. We work with patients virtually across the UK and can see you face to face if clinically indicated.
How do appointments work?
Your first appointment is 90 minutes. Your doctor will review your history in advance, and during the consultation we will build a plan together, including decisions about any testing that may help.
Does the appointment price include testing?
No. Testing is separate, and we only recommend tests that will directly change your management plan.
I already have a diagnosis and test results — can you still help?
Yes. You can upload your results before your appointment, and we will review them with you. If there are extensive results, we may charge a small preparation fee, which we will always agree with you first.
How does the nutrition side work?
We provide tailored nutrition advice. For more complex needs, we may recommend you see our nutritional therapist, which can accelerate progress and help you meet your goals more effectively.
