A Root-Cause Approach to Chronic Infections with Mosaic Medical
What Are Chronic Infections?
Chronic infections are infections that persist for months or even years, often despite conventional treatments. They may be caused by bacteria, viruses, fungi, or parasites, and can contribute to long-term illness and immune dysfunction.
Common examples include:
- Reactivation of viruses such as Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), Herpes Simplex Virus ½ (HSV1/2), Human Herpesvirus 6 (HHV-6), Cytomegalovirus and Coxsackie virus
- Gut parasites
- Chronic Lyme disease
How It Affects People:
Chronic infections can affect both physical and mental health. They may weaken the immune system, fuel chronic inflammation, and contribute to conditions such as autoimmunity. Because symptoms overlap with many other conditions, they are often misdiagnosed or overlooked.
- Persistent fatigue
- Muscle and joint pain
- Brain fog or poor concentration
- Digestive issues (bloating, diarrhoea, constipation, gas)
- Headaches or migraines
- Sore throat or swollen lymph nodes
- Skin rashes or unexplained inflammation
- Sleep disturbances
- Low-grade fevers or chills
Conventional treatment usually involves repeated courses of antibiotics, antivirals, or antifungals. While these may help temporarily, they often fail to address underlying immune imbalances, chronic inflammation, or environmental factors that allow infections to persist.
Our Functional Medicine Approach
At Mosaic Medical, we take a comprehensive, root-cause approach to chronic infections. Instead of repeatedly suppressing symptoms, we work to uncover why the infection is persisting and support your body’s ability to heal.
- Persistent or reactivated infections
- Immune system weakness or autoimmunity
- Chronic inflammation and oxidative stress
- Gut health (dysbiosis, SIBO, leaky gut)
- Toxic burden (mould, heavy metals, environmental toxins)
- Hormonal imbalances (thyroid, cortisol, sex hormones)
- Nutrient deficiencies (vitamin D, zinc, B vitamins, magnesium)
- Comprehensive lab testing for immune function, inflammation, infection markers, and gut health
- Personalised antimicrobial protocols (herbal or pharmaceutical if needed)
- Targeted nutrition and supplementation to strengthen the immune system
- Detoxification support (supporting liver, kidneys, and lymphatic system)
- Lifestyle strategies including sleep optimisation, stress reduction, and pacing
- Immune modulation therapies using evidence-based supplements and botanicals
Please note, we do not have expertise to treat Chronic Lyme disease although we do test for it in clinic if the history is suggestive. We have partners that we refer to for the specialist treatment of Chronic Lyme disease once we have identified it.

FAQ – Chronic Infections & Functional Medicine
How can functional medicine help with chronic infections?
We focus on uncovering why your body is struggling to clear an infection — from immune imbalances to toxic load or gut health issues — and design a comprehensive plan to restore balance.
Do you offer lab testing for chronic infections?
Yes. We use advanced testing to identify chronic or reactivated infections, measure immune function, assess nutrient levels, and evaluate gut health.
Can you help if I’ve already tried conventional treatments but still have symptoms?
Yes. Many patients come to us after standard treatments have failed. We investigate deeper root causes and provide a structured plan for long-term improvement.
How long will it take to see results?
This varies depending on the type of infection, how long it has been present, and your overall health. Some people notice improvements within weeks, while others require months of careful work.
Do you offer remote consultations?
Yes. We support patients virtually across the UK, and also offer in-person consultations if clinically needed.
How do appointments work?
Your first appointment lasts 90 minutes. Your doctor will have reviewed your case in advance, and during the consultation we will identify key issues, decide on testing, and create your initial care plan.
Does the appointment price include testing?
No. Testing is separate and only recommended when results will directly change your treatment plan.
I already have test results and a diagnosis – can you still help?
Yes. You can upload your existing results before your appointment. If you have many, there may be a small preparation fee, but we will always discuss this with you first.
How does the nutrition side work?
Nutrition is central to supporting immune health and recovery from infections. We provide tailored advice, and where appropriate, recommend working with our nutritional therapist alongside your doctor for optimal results.
Ready to Address Chronic Infections Differently?
We recommend starting with a free discovery call with one of our doctors or nutritional therapists. This will give you the opportunity to share your story, ask questions, and decide whether our approach is right for you.
